Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world. In the United States, practitioners incorporate healing traditions from China, Japan, and Korea. Acupuncture is a component of a complete medical system of healing. It is often used in conjunction with herbal and nutritional therapies, in order to not only treat symptoms, but also eliminate the root cause.

Acupuncture is a complementary medicine, which can be used alone or in conjunction with Western Medicine. However, many patients find that their need for prescription medicines or surgery is either decreased or eliminated as they return to health naturally.

Acupuncturists facilitate the healing response by using very fine, sterile, single-use, disposable needles. This method of therapy is safe and pain-free. In fact many patients fall asleep during their treatment and feel a lasting reduction in stress for days after. Acupuncture promotes this relaxed state by allowing the brain to release endorphins and decrease cortisol.

The goal of Chinese Medicine is to restore balance in the body—naturally. When the body is in dis-ease, a “blockage” or imbalance is present. To understand this concept, picture your body as a piece of land that is receiving water or nourishment, from various hoses. When water runs freely, the soil is fertile and growth is thriving. If any of the hoses become kinked, the ground will become withered. The role of the acupuncturist is to carefully observe the signs and symptoms, and find the “kinks” in the system.

In order to correctly diagnose and remove these blockages, your practitioner will ask you about your health condition, lifestyle, routines, and dietary habits. Your acupuncturist will want to obtain a complete picture of your treatment needs and behaviors that may contribute to your condition. Inform your practitioner of all medications you are taking and all medical conditions you have. This will ensure the most successful course of treatment. And finally, be sure to ask questions. Your Licensed Acupuncturist at Whole Health is committed to helping you achieve your health care goals!

According to the World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health, there are over 200 conditions which can be effectively treated by acupuncture.

Allison has received her Masters in Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization from Southwest Acupuncture College in Boulder. Since graduating, she has been honored to serve patients in the treatment room with varying health concerns–from pain management to internal medicine and mental health.

She has herself been served and healed by the holistic/whole-person approach inherent to Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, and it is her desire as a practitioner to pay that benefit forward to the community she serves. She cares deeply about meeting a person where they are, without judgment, as an ally in their journey towards better health and well being, and believes that sincere presence and mindful attention in tandem with skillful care can facilitate incredible healing; it is her intention to bring that into the treatment room with every single patient.

Her training encompasses a wide range of Eastern approaches to health and healing: She is well versed in TCM assessment and diagnosis and the application of this knowledge in prescribing personalized herbal formulas that take the whole person into consideration. She is adept at trigger point acupuncture therapies, scalp and auricular acupuncture, and meridian based therapies for pain management, as well as hands on therapies that promote circulation of qi and likewise help shift stubborn pain syndromes. She has trained and practices a Japanese lineage of acupuncture and pulse diagnosis that involves a gentler needle technique and the intent to harmonize the whole body’s systems, and has received training in Acutonics–a vibrational healing system that utilizes specialized tuning forks and Chinese Medicine principles to treat imbalances and disease. She is proficient in the uses of cupping, gua sha, moxibustion, bodywork and tuning forks to mobilize qi and support the whole person in search of support and medical intervention that has ancient roots and incredible modern applications. “
